DESIGN NAME: Bricola
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bracelet
INSPIRATION: The Venetian landscape has inspired many designers, yet few have featured Venice bricola. The bricole are wooden poles that function as a warning sign for vessels in water nearing docking. These commonplace structures appeal as protection and safety. Additionally, using multitude of dimensions morphing into one destination: from water onto land, from uncertainty back to stability. Bricole becomes, symbolically, a mean to ascertain of reaching one's goal.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bricola is emblematic of the contradictions that occur before a return to one's desired destination. A stylistic choice is apparent as 12 tubes, 36 feathers, 19 sapphires follow a pattern around the number 3. Three is often considered a number of perfection and omniscience.Christians link three to the day in which earth rose from water, to indicate resurrection. Wavy patterns on top view is a nod to gondola shapes. Security and stability.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a bracelet that can be worn either as it is or it can transform to a simpler version if we change the black ostrich feathers and set rubies instead.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in September 2018 in Thessaloniki, Greece and it was comlpleted in December 2018 in Thessaloniki where it was first exhibited in a group exhibition at Ro Gallery.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: A curved silver bracelet was formed as a nod to gondolas. Silver tubes were fit in specific dimensions and distances following a pattern of three. Black feathers followed as a center theme. Black sapphires pavilions gave a contradictive sharp edge. Fine silversmithing techniques combined with handmade stone setting gave life to the project.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 6.6mm x 5.1mm x 7mm. The decorative black ostrich's feathers add up to 10 cm more height in three directions.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The methods used for this project were traditional hand made silversmithing combined with hand made stone setting. The required pieces of machinery were carefully selected to produce a perfect result. The stone setting was a challenge, with the pavilion facing up and the feathers' adjustment acquired special detail.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to give to the project a three dimensional look using metal, precious stones and a material that could show movement. That is the reason of using silver, natural sapphires and ostrich feathers.
