| DESIGN NAME: Assembly and Combination PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tableware INSPIRATION: From time to time in our everyday life, big container are needed occasionally for different uses. Yet, bigger usually means heavier and harder to move around. I found it interesting to create small pieces that can be assembled quite easily to become a bigger item, while keeping each of them not only nice and pretty, but also practical. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is a set of ceramic tablewares, which can be assembled differently in several ways. The set includes cups and bowls that can be used separately, or put together to form bigger containers. Aside from their practicality, they can also be fine decorations for stylish homes. Meanwhile, comparing to other materials, ceramics can withhold higher temperature and usually easier to clean. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This design includes several pieces of tableware that can be used alone, such as dishes and cups. They can also be stacked up for decoration and stylish purpose, when not being used for dinning. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2018 in Macau and finished January 2019 in Macau. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The process start with finding a appropriate dimension for the design. Either too small or too big will make the pieces less practical. Afterwards, plaster molds are made and clay mixture can be pour into them for shaping purpose. The clay is then taken out and dried, following by glazing process. After each pieces are ready, they are placed in the stove and heated at around 1300 Celsius degree. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: bowls: 14cm*14cm*8cm cup: 5cm*5cm*7cm TAGS: Ceramic art, tableware, stylish dinnerware, stack-able, easy to clean RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Tableware is one of the most commonly used tools in daily life. Researches shows that an inspiring environment can affect people's appetite positively, thus a good set of tableware is really helpful for our dinning experiences. This project is to create a set of tableware that are not only useful, but also interesting to be use, and furthermore inproves the quality of people's daily life. CHALLENGE: Ceramic pieces tend to distort when being processed in ceramic stove. It can only be avoided by extensive knowledge with clay materials and molding technique.
