DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Le Lien

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Hair Salon

INSPIRATION:
The design was an attempt to represent an impression I (the designer) had on the owner (the client) who is cheerful, casual and refreshing. In addition, the space was designed to create an atmosphere that provides senses of security and trust to customers so that it would put them at ease upon receiving services and treatments on their hair.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The request was to transform and design to a private hair salon for reservation-only customers. Placement of 45mm prisms with certain rhythm separates waiting space, cutting booth and dressing/kids' spaces. Mirrors are on both sides of one piece of article. Hair-salons offer space in which women come in to reset their usual business and be reborn yet more beautifully in order to start a new self. Thus the space to serve for the objectives needs to be as precise and thought-through.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Placement of 45mm prisms with certain rhythm separates waiting space, cutting booth and dressing/kids' spaces. Mirrors are on both sides of one piece of article, and acting as a center-point to create symmetric space including circular booth. Coloring booth and consulting table are structured by using the same prisms. The prisms are not painted for the purpose of leaving the rawness of the material open to be touched and felt, and ultimately contribute to the process of alteration, not aging, over time.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Placement of 45mm prisms with certain rhythm separates waiting space, cutting booth and dressing/kids' spaces. Circular partition of cutting booth creates security for customers at hair-salon who are more often than not vulnerable. Mirrors are on both sides of one piece of article, and acting as a center-point to create symmetric space including circular booth. This particular section is designed to appeal to Japanese esthetics on interior design, known as "Shitsurai"; originally referring to setting up furnishing and decorating them on the day of an honor ceremony, welcoming guests and holding a feast. Coloring booth and consulting table are structured by using the same prisms.
