RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design team came up with themes for new ceiling fans by trend mapping. This involved study and grouping of visual schemes in home interiors through magazines and store visits. Focus group discussions were organized with home owners to understand the thought process they followed while designing or renovating their homes. The results were corroborated through expert opinion with architects and interior designers. Shortlisted themes were taken through a quantitative and qualitative research across three key cities in India.
CHALLENGE: Ceiling fans as a category have seen little design intervention over the years. Most of the supposedly premium fans available in the market feature small trims added to conventional blades and motor housings. The challenge here was to create a new aesthetic and new user experience with energy efficient focus while using the standard functioning mechanism of a ceiling fan.
