Since its birth in 1892. the building has been serving different functions rather than a one, but it never had a proper care by the Protection of cultural monuments and during the war it was a shelter for those who have been tortured and imprisoned during the war, not long after that the building changed its function to a primary school, which was the only educational institution in the municipality of Srbobran. A building with decades of history and long age should not be ignored.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Geo-EN office is located in Srbobran, Serbia, in a building that was built in the late 19th century and is not under the protection of cultural monuments. This fact allows freedom to architect during the design process, however, this project is primarily based on the relationship between the architecture today and heritage. The ceiling is made of brick, in the so-called barrel vault, which was a typical element in the architecture in 19th century in Austria-Hungary. It was often hidden under mortar and architect decided to make the ceiling visible and therefore emphasize its significance in the context of architectural heritage.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Even though functionality is one of the main qualities of this project, what truly makes it unique is its aesthetic of the composition. The main motif is the ceiling emphasized by the minimalist character of the new interior. The yellow brick is highlighted by the warm tones of the desk's wooden structure. On the other hand, the warm colors are toned down by somewhat more calming gray walls and floor tiles, while the entire space is emphasized by the black furniture.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2017 and finished in October of 2017. It was presented in international Salon of Architecture in Novi Sad, Serbia, and get a special reward for constructed interior in Vojvodina. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As with all projects, there was a limited budget, which was at a very low level here. Removing the existing mortar from the ceiling, which was in a very bad condition, led architect to an interesting discovery. The bricks were accurate and plastering again will cost a lot and it will be hard to manage. The walls form a connection between the new and the old, which final processing is descended with the help of craftsmen from this small settlement. Wall finishing technique was invented with the help of basic applications.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The office area is 47 square meters.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Regarding the space organization, architect tended to design a functional area of 47 m2 which would not alter the existing condition. The office space is therefore divided into three zones: the right side from the entrance which is reserved for the office desks, while on the left there is a conference desk for meeting with the clients. The third segment consists of utility rooms - a kitchen and a restroom. The entire project is economical, even though it does not leave one with such an impression.
CHALLENGE: Main challenge was to find a connection between architectural heritage with the needs of modern human is essential of this project. With simply functionality and approach design, some details were highlighted, which make this project specific. Since the client required floor heating and under the office there is a basement, whose ceiling is also composed of brick and vaults, it was necessary to construct a very light base, which has the same strength as concrete. By adequate replacement of the gravel, with the balls, that are most similar to the styrofoam balls, the same strength was obtained and ten times lighter material.
