DESIGN NAME: Carbon
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Barstool
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the 1950s formula race cars grills, which were used to help cool down the cars, we designed a seat with aerodinamic lines, suave curves made of steel rods to envolve the human form. Like the side vents designed to increase the performance of engine, the curved foot rest has laser cut denting which not only is it more ergonomic, it adds more adhesion. The legs are made of solid oak wood, with a natural finish evoking the principal construction of the automobile industry.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The fusion of natural oak with metal rods give Carbon an industrial, sturdy and robust feel, being at the same time light and airy. The metal frame and steel rods are designed and curved ergonomically, one by one, designed to embrace the human form while prioritising comfort. The curved foot rest has laser cut denting for more adhesion.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The metal frame and steel rods are designed and curved ergonomically, one by one. The main goal is to prioritise comfort. The curved foot rest has laser cut denting for more adhesion. The legs are made of solid oak wood, with a natural finish.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Carbon barstool started evolving in March 2018, and was presented for the first time at 100% Design in London in September 2018.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Based on our inspiration with regards to the 1950 Formula race cars, the Carbon stool naturally evolved to a singular piece, going through various phases.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to create an Industrial Barstool which looked light and airy, at the same time comforting. The metal rods were curved to adjust to and envolve our natural forms. The seat support although thin, is sturdy to hold the body weight.
