DESIGN NAME: Diavelo Ibrido
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Electric Bicycle
INSPIRATION: The bicycle has it's inspiration for the user insights. It makes perfectly sense to separate the battery from the bicycle. You only use the battery when you need it. This bike is a hybrid between an regular electric bicycle and a normal bicycle. Both user scenarios is in place with this product.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Diavelo Ibrido Veloce creates a new design approach to exclusive electric bikes. All
the electric parts are integrated and hidden in the crank and in the carbon frame. The Diavelo Ibrido Veloce has everything modern design is looking for. The design is both holistic, futuristic, artistic and sporty all at the same time. The new autoclave
carbon materials makes this electric bicycle very light compared to other electric bicycles. The battery is carried separately in a backpack that matches.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The electric bike is lighter than other electric bikes because of the fact that the battery is an external part of the bicycle. This makes the bicycle a hybrid. With the battery in the back pack it is an electric bike. With the battery out it is a normal conventional bike. The first of it's kind.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 12 Month. The design analysis is based on an insight process where we studied how the consumers are using their electric bike in certain demographic areas.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The bicycle is realized with an autoclave production method. the material is carbon. With autoclave the frame is extra strong and durable but still very light.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 175 x 48 x 95 cm 9,9 Kilo. Belt drive and single gear.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We have done research in aerodynamics, weight ratio to stiffness of the frames. This is a totally new method in the electric bicycles industry where those parameters mentioned has not been explored before now with our new bicycle product.
CHALLENGE: The most critical challenge was to get the weight down to a record breaking level. The electric bicycle has a race bike dna and must therefor be light. But having the added weight of a battery and a motor was the most difficult challenge. The way we have solved the challenges is by using untraditional materials for an electric bike such as carbon and kevlar instead of metal and alloy
