DESIGN NAME: Parc Palais
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Apartment
INSPIRATION: The design was inspired by the relationship between the couple who respect and rely on each other although they have different design preferences, designer blended Japanese style and Scandinavian design throughout the house creating a harmony space. The design of each rooms connected to each other implies different preferences and personalities of family members would be close to each other and as a whole.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Designers used the common traits of Japanese style and Scandinavian design to satisfy different design preferences of the couple, a consistent usage of style, color and decoration makes the overall design unified while the raised tatami platforms in the study room and bedroom added visual interest to the space. Two opposite sliding doors installed in study room to establish a seamless connection with the living dining room and it created an illusion of depth and greater sense of space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Designer has well communicated with the couple to better understand their preferences, needs and habits so as to find the right balance between both and they are satisfied with the mix of Japanese style and Scandinavian design. Besides, the design is meaningful to them as the mix and match always reminds them home is the most harmonious place that they can always stay close to each other.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2017 for 4 months in Ho Man Tin, Hong Kong.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Designer used the wood tone to pair with different shades of grey to create a harmonious home, the mix and match warms up the space while different shades of grey created a layering effect and the geometric pattern tiles and bedhead prettify the space making it artful. Also, he designed the raised tatami platforms, element of Japanese style, in the study room and bedroom to add interest to the design and increase the storage.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The house contains 1,074 square feet.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Communication is always an important and powerful tool to better understand what is the ideal home to the house owners. Through the two-way communication, designer and the house owners contribute towards the decision-making process, home is not just an abode built to live in, it is the place where designer makes the house owners feel.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of this project is to come up with the design idea that satisfy different design preferences of the couple and find the right balance between both while making the home harmonious and overall design unified.
