| DESIGN NAME: Convolo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Swimming Pool INSPIRATION: CONVOLO, meaning fly together with others, provide friends with a space to enjoy the moment. Taking advantage of the eco-friendly environment, the sun rays can be seen distinctly when sunlight shines though tree branches. This image picturizing when people meet together and becomes a special moment echoing with the idea of gathering. However, friend always separate in different cities, as the scene of sunrise rising alongside the mountains which reflects the parting between people. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The resort with tropical elegance seems to grow from the emerald mound. CONVOLO is more than a pool but an entirely new sector which coexists peacefully with the natural landscape. It is a vital place connecting with nature, human interaction and sustainable development. The concrete and lawn give the terrace a clean-cut parallel and bring up the concept of separation from CONVOLO. The surround landscape and material perpendicular structure which reflected the gathering in CONVOLO. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Imagine yourself swimming in the infinity pool and drinking in the natural forest and cerulean ocean. While enjoying the tea at outdoor sofa, you are sway with ferns planted behind the seats while the breeze blowing. The berms with plants have turned into natural slopes then transformed to incredible terrace field. The terrace field with fern follows the hillside morphology in a tiered configuration while the CONVOLO and communal facilities are built on it. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: CONVOLO, located at Southern Taiwan, is a swimming pool in a resort on a hillside of Taitung, Taiwan Project started in August 2016 and finished in November 2017 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The pavilion combines the spatial purity of modernism, exemplifying by stark cubist volumes with a tropical aesthetic of timber salts facade, black painted walls, and rendered in polished concrete platform. The ground is finish with polished concrete whereas platforms and in-built furnitures. The selection of earth-toned colors, materials and textures, blending with hidden gardens and various types of plant, evocatively reflects the surrounding nature. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project has 450 square meters. TAGS: Light, Water, Green building, Resort, Pavilion, Wood, Concrete, Nature, Swimming Pool RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Once completed, the CONVOLO is expected to be a spot where guests can gather together enjoying wonderful break time and a panoramic view of the ocean. The lush grasses, dense shrubs, and colorful flower, planted to withstand the windy environment, sprawl the scent of freedom. This place is like an oasis in the desert. There is birdsong and sunshine spreading the sense of peace. The most remarkable point about CONVOLO is that it harmonizes the shape and lines of nature with the space. CHALLENGE: As for the construction of the pool, the team will be taken to task on Taiwan’s extreme weather which usually causes a sudden strong wind reaching 80 mph during typhoon season. They have to maintain structural stability in the face of building movements created by the wind loads and heavy rain.
