| DESIGN NAME: DeAngelis Italian Chocolate Packaging PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the DeAngelis chocolate brand and packaging came from its Italian roots. The branding needed to be refined, sophisticated yet delicate with hints of elegance very much like the chocolate itself. The textures the customer experiences when eating these bars were the inspiration for the packaging with its subtle yet tactile mixture of finishes. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: DeAngelis wanted to launch their brand of hand made Italian chocolate into the UK market and briefed us to create a new brand and luxury range of exclusive bespoke packaging for the high end market. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The idea behind this tactile packaging is that when opening the box the journey begins and as each layer is unveiled it takes you deeper into the luxurious experience of this very uniquely hand crafted product. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The cold pressed chocolate bars were individually wrapped in glassine paper and then finished with a hand tied black satin bow and high gloss finished flavour indicating tag. These bars were then packaged in singles, threes and fives within a rigid hand made card box covered in luxurious black Winter & Company Kashgar fabric paper. A white silk screen printed DeAngelis brand logo and a copper foiled blocked Pure Dark & Italian strapline, all elevated this brand for the high end exclusive market. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Chocolate Bar Size Width 56mm x Depth 15mm x Height 15mm Single Box Size Width 148mm x Depth 36mm x Height 66mm Three Box Size Width 174mm x Depth 36mm x Height 148mm Five Box Size Width 284mm x Depth 36mm x Height 148mm TAGS: Cold Pressed Chocolate, Italian Chocolate, Kre8ive Partners, Luxury Chocolate RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We looked at traditional Italian chocolate packaging and the current market leaders in luxury chocolate to ensure we were pitching the products at the right level. At a premium price per bar, the brand and packaging needed to reflect the high end product inside. CHALLENGE: To produce a simple, effortless design, to truly understand less is more and to encompass the few ingredients in the make up of this very unique product. To bring smooth, textured, matt and gloss mediums together to simulate the product within its packaging. From the hand made box to the hand cut DeAngelis brand logo all design and production stages had a mindset of emulating the human process of making the chocolate bars. NAME: DeAngelis PROFILE: DeAngelis is a small Italian chocolate company who creates hand made cold pressed chocolate bars with just two or three ingredients. This kind of chocolate is called Cioccolato Modicano which means in English Modican chocolate, and refers to Modica, a town in Sicily where they traditionally produced chocolate in this way. The cocoa mass and sugar are combined with no refining or conching process. DeAngelis is one of the few UK producers who make their chocolate this way. |
