DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Fuji Sosai Office

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Funeral Home Operating Company

INSPIRATION:
The name Fuji Sosai came from Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain. Using Mount Fuji as its silhouette, we created a wall display using the word Fuji Sosai written in various sizes and fonts. These differences in sizes and fonts of the characters is a metaphor for the employees. Through this display, we tried to convey a message: “Despite the differences, as long as everyone shares the same goals and stays united, you’ll bring back an enormous success like Mount Fuji.”

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
For the employees at Fuji Sosai, tension fills the funeral homes where they have to work at every day as these are the places where people face death, and where utmost care and consideration are required. To help employees feel relaxed after returning to the office from these parlors, we designed the space based on the image of a “cafe.” we tried to convey the image of the company as a workplace where employees can have fun and relaxed working time.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The funeral industry is facing a shortage of human resources. To help the company recruit top class personnel in future, we tried to convey the image of the company as a workplace where employees can have fun and relaxed working time. We’ve arranged original graphics, tables which employees can use for table tennis games and bar counter for the interior to create a space where employees can communicate efficiently.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Completion Date : December 2018 in Okinawa, Japan

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The company’s logo and messages one can see the moment they enter through the entrance is the interior’s highlight. By furnishing the characters and the wall using the same monotone plaster, we created an impression that the characters are embossed from the wall. We tried to only emphasize Mount Fuji’s silhouette when designing it. Moreover, we use a circular mirror to depict the sun, with small Fuji Sosai words below to represent clouds.
