| DESIGN NAME: Collector's Stage PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Apartment INSPIRATION: Inspired from the client's antique collection, Scandinavian furniture making has a long history and influenced by Bauhaus. It emphasized in functionalism, modernity and mass production. In our design, we take this characteristics and turn it into our design concept. Walls are designed to be functional: acoustic panels, TV wall, storage space, conceal doors, display shelves, serving tables all are hidden and unified with the wall covering panels, resulted a functional and minimal spatial quality UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Good design is invisible. The focus is not the apartment itself, but the spectacular nature around the residence. Sitting at the peak of Hong Kong, it adjoins a mountain with the prominent harbor view. We bring nature into the everyday life. Natural materials is used with sculptured light create a tranquil quality that blends with the natural environment. Antique furniture from Northern Europe and modern paintings from the owner's collections are another main focus of this apartment. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The apartment intended to be full of the owner's arts, furniture and wine collection. One room is turned into a wine cellar, and one room is a multi-functional entertainment room. Regardless it's use of natural materials, high technology was embedded with the apartment with extensive smart living system, AV and karaoke system. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Align with the Scandiavian furniture making philosophy, we design a sense of modernity and functionalism. Daily functions are concealed with wall covered panels and huge sliding panels to create a blended in, monolithic space. Echo with the furniture, interior space are simple with clean lines, without excess decoration in light-coloured teak and oak wood. We applied a novel approaches to the simple materials leaving an invisible background to showcase the owner's important pieces.
