PRIMARY FUNCTION: Japanese Restaurant
INSPIRATION: We want to create natural and vigorous dining atmosphere by using natural elements such as gravel, flowers and recycled wood, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: There is a stereotype of Japanese restaurant for most people. In this case, we combined eastern and western elements to create a unique dining experience. We use stone veneer to create heavy and stable spatial perception. Giving a image of interior garden by using rough slate flooring in the entrance and filling plants in the two-story high wine rack.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Compare to traditional Japanese restaurant, we use a lot of forest elements to create a unique dining experience.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The construction duration is a month, we set up a scaffold in order to speed up the construction process. We also use thin and light-weight materials to save time and cost of the construction.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The use of ultra-thin stone veneer have characteristics of thin and light weight, so it can be easily handle and maintain in the construction site. Also, we choose high-quality plastic plants to create a unique indoor forest atmosphere.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: A two-story Japanese restaurant, our 120-square-meter dining space provides an unique experience of dining in an outdoor forest in the rainy climate of Taiwan.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The interpretation of natural elements are very different between Eastern and Western culture. We hope to combine these two different cultural vocabularies in this Japanese restaurant, to create a profound dining experience.
CHALLENGE: The original business space uses a many of mirrors to create a trendy teppanyaki dining space. We retain the original space structure and use light, easy-to-construct materials to save a lot of budget and create a unique space.
