DESIGN NAME: Industrial
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wedding Rings
INSPIRATION: Aesthetics of the rings are inspired by industrial patterns which could be found in factories interior design, details of production machines, mechanical joints etc.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The goal of the project was to make "indestructible" wedding rings with industrial aesthetics. This determined the choice of materials: the outer layer of every ring is 3D-printed in titan. The profile of inner silver part is rounded so the rings are very comfortable to wear.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To be exchanged during the wedding :-)
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2018 in Moscow and finished in October 2018, and was exhibited in Design gallery of All-Russian Decorative art Museum in October 2018 - February 2019 ("Designed and created in Russia" exhibition)

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 3D modelling, 3D printing in titan, rolling of silver, gold plating (also can be produced in gold right away), precise mechanical adjustment of inner and outer parts, laser engraving.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Inner diameter: 16mm - 19mm
Outer diameter: 18mm - 21mm
Width: 6mm / 8mm
TAGS: industrial, pattern, wedding, engraving
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A group of interviewees were asked a few questions about their own wedding rings and also they were requested to show them to the designers. It turned out that every second ring (which is supposed to be worn for the whole life) is being deformed after a few years of wearing because of the relative softness of gold or silver. The texture was often rubbed off. The project was started in order to create a series of very durable rings. This also defined the aesthetical features of the rings which were meant to express the durability. The designers then started the second research to gather industrial patterns suitable for modelling and printing.
CHALLENGE: Titan cannot be welded with silver or gold so the team was to invent the method of joining two parts together. As a result, mechanical fit was chosen as a reliable method of connection.
