| DESIGN NAME: ND Lens Gear PRIMARY FUNCTION: Follow Focus Ad-On INSPIRATION: One of our customers who is running a high end cinematographic rental, mainly for cameras and lenses showed us a already existing LensGears and its flaws. He proposed his wishes for the perfect Lens Gear and we listened and delivered. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Our Lens Gear precisely adjusts by itself to different lenses with different diameters. The ND Series covers all lenses out there like no other available Lens Gear. No Cutting, no Bending: No more screw drivers, worn out belts or annoying remainders of straps that stick out. Everything fits like a charm. Thanks to its clever design it centers itself gently and firmly around the lens. The ND LensGear is completely tool-free! OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ND LensGear is the first durable 360 degrees free LensGear. That mean that you dont have any kind of loop, lock or connection in the ring which you normally have. Instead of rubber or platic we use durable and stable alloy, so taht you have an precise and stable workflow. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2015 till 2019 in Berlin. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ND LensGear is CNC milled in Alloy and the surface is coated for extra durability. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Around 100 mm in diameter, depends on the model. Fits on all kind of Camera Lenses. TAGS: professional filming, cinematography, camera, clever, film, cameraman, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A team member works in the field of film and knew the problems with previous solutions. After researching the existing solutions, first ideas for a 360 degree free version were created. Following was a research of all conventional lenses and a division into three ND LensGear sizes, which should serve almost all lenses. The field test was fast and successful due to the close cooperation with a filmtechnic rental. Next step was a research for manufactures which we want to find in germany. CHALLENGE: Normally a LensGear is closed around a lens due to the different lens sizes. Our goal was to find a solution that has no lock or connection, while remaining small and elegant. The small constuction space that was left was also a challenge. Weight is an important factor, wehn you make films, so every gram counts. Cheap plastic LensGears increased the economic unpredictable risk of making a quality metal ring.
