| DESIGN NAME: Music Planet PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bluetooth Speaker INSPIRATION: People dreamed of that they can pick a star from the night sky, the design is a planet shape small object as people can hold it in hand, it seems so close between mankind and planets. Also Inspired by an ancient Persian art form called ebru wet extension fluid art process, utilizing this process to create a connection between art and image of planet’s surface. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The image of planet shape is a common figure to most people, but very few designs aims in express an art feeling of universe existence. Using a programmed rgb led to light up a translucent acrylic planet's ring plate, the acrylic ring plate shinning with different colors. Together with ebru wet extension fluid art process, it creates a good art simulation of giant planet’s look. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Hold the halfspheres with two hands to rotate to open, control panel and usb charging connector located in the center of ring plate, there are small buttons with color changing functions. There are 3 main light control functions color changing, timer light, breath and blink light, all controlled by buttons on the center of ring plate. Sound speaker located in the bottom of the sphere with about 15-degree angle from the surface of a table, music sound is reflected by the surface. Music signal based on Bluetooth transferred from a mobile device and also computer. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in the late of 2014 in Shanghai and finished in the end of 2018 in Shanghai, and was exhibited in Shanghai Design Week in 2016, 2017, also exhibited in an academic material exhibition in Shanghai in 2018 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Most parts of the design are made of plastic by injection molding, 2 halfspheres are made of abs, the ring plate is made of pmma. There are some electronic parts inside are circuit board, rgb led, battery, speaker. The textures of the surface of 2 half spheres are printed with wet extension fluid process. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions:Width 140 mm x Depth 140 mm x Height 80 mm weight: 500g TAGS: Universe, Planets, Bluetooth speaker, Decoration light, Art design, Office decoration,Children room RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design development is based on prototype research, the project was started 5 years ago, made more than 20 different prototypes. There is different stage of project development, lighting system, sound system, electronic parts, programming, assembling and cost control, took a long period to make this project into a real product. CHALLENGE: It is not easy to design a wireless speaker which can make the necessary holes for speaker invisible and still keep good sound quality. By making a lot of experiments to improve the quality of sound include thicken the cover of speaker, reduce speaker’s room, tune chips and circuit board. Besides with designing an innovative way to make sound perform good, point the speaker to a surface of table with good angle to reflect the sound, it makes a discovery of different material the table made then the sound reflected with different style, wood reflect warm and depth sound style, metal reflect cold and clean sound style. Lighting system is hard to perform perfect too, with making of different prototype to ensure the color lights of rgb led are directed and shown well inside a pmma material with good looking, a water wave structure design on one side of the ring to make led lights transmit equally balanced.
