Cedea - Dolomites' Luxury Mineral Water

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Glass Bottled Mineral Water

INSPIRATION:
Cedea was the Goddess of Water and Life by the traditional legends of the Ladin people, that inhabited the Dolomite mountains for over fifteen centuries. She is now the only mineral water from the heart of the Dolomites. It takes inspiration from their colourful phenomenon called Enrosadira, also linked to the Garden of Roses legend, that originated the rose flower brandmark as well. The Cedea bottles are meant to resemble the special glow of the Dolomites bathed in the Enrosadira rose red and the blue of the sky, creating a surprising colourful effect that makes the water glare and shine vibrantly.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Cedea bottle, tall and smooth, is only made in first-class quality glass. Its thick coloured bottom (sculpted with the Cedea rose symbol) generates a unique colour glare effect spreading through the water, highlighted by the twisting vertical lines that give the bottle a delicate spiral asymmetric shape, resembling the natural shape of Cedea, the Goddess of Water and Life.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Handling the Cedea water bottle, its look changes as the reflections and refraction of the colour from the bottom spreads into the water in a very dynamic and vibrant way. Because of its twisting lines, the bottle shape is never symmetrical, achieving a smooth and more natural look.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The first drafts of Cedea bottle were made in 2012 - 2013. After the consolidation of the company, the development of the bottle was brought to final product during 2017. In 2018 the Cedea website was online. Initially as teaser, finally unveiling the product in spring 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Cedea is only in first-quality white glass. The bottom, colour varnished, is unusually thick to allow the embedding of the Cedea rose symbol. Such thickness emphasizes also the "lens effect" that makes the symbol very visible in its carvings. The bottle is taller than usual: elegant and smooth. The shape presents three vertical engraved twisting lines. They make the bottle always delicately asymmetric, giving it a natural and unique silhouette. Such shape is difficult to achieve: In Italy only one glass maker was able to make it. The cap is in sleek aluminum delicately marked.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Cedea water comes in two qualities, Still and Sparkling, and in two sizes. Still Cedea water bottle is coloured in pinky red. Sparkling Cedea water is coloured in turquoise. The primary bottle is size 750ml. Height: 320 mm - Diameter: 83,7 mm The half size bottle is 375ml. Height: 254 mm - Diameter: 69,8 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Initial research made clear the interest for high-end mineral waters on the international market. Five different designs were explored as drafts, to gather feedback from potential investors. The chosen, final design was developed to the end to be the Cedea packaging bottle. The key was to create a bottle that could carry successfully the values of the Dolomites: beauty, poetry, nature, purity, lifestyle. The Cedea bottle embeds the Dolomites Enrosadira legend, recreating its colour flaring inside the water itself, to be a unique and surprising water on the table of 5-stars customers.

CHALLENGE:
The packaging for Cedea needed to be special. Unique, exclusive, but also elegant, smooth and memorable. The search for the wow effect led to using the water inside the bottle to be part of the packaging surprising look. The prototyping and experimentation of this was quite complex, as understanding the reaction of water to reflections and refraction is not an easy task. Then, we had to make it. It's a bottle expensive to make. Born to be different from the usual standards, the following challenge was to make all the elements come together to form the final bottle in a feasible way costwise.

Cedea is an exceptional mineral water thanks to its unique nature. Produced in respect of the environment, it's bottled in exclusive glass bottles, which design is proprietary of Cedea.
