| DESIGN NAME: The Moon's Ocean PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant INSPIRATION: I was inspired to design this piece by a song I heard. It was Claude Debussy's famous masterpiece, "CLAIR DE LUNE" This song made me feel peaceful and made my mind drift towards the ocean and the moon's reflection on it. The light and shadow of the moon shines on the sea. As the waves rise and fall, it bursts into beautiful sparks, sometimes splendid, sometimes calm. This change is like the ups and downs of our lives. Living in Taiwan, the ocean is always close at hand. The light reflecting off the waves is a favorite memory of mine and it is something I wanted to bring to this design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Although this design looks simple, the metal lines with diamonds on the side of the work are high and low staggered. It is like the ups and downs of the waves. Every tsavorite and spinel on the metal lines are movable. It will shine with the wearer's physical movements. The double necklace is like a stream of rivers. The diamonds on it symbolize the raindrops falling into the river and flow into the sea along the river. A blue sapphire is surrounded by a variety of tiny gemstones. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: n/a PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The piece was commissioned by a local customer. It was started on October 2017 and was finished on June 2018. It has never been exhibited because it was for a private collection. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The frame of the pendant is comprised of 75% gold. The remaining 25% is comprised of silver, palladium, nickel and copper. These materials were chosen because the color will last for longer and will be able to resist the elements more. Due to the nature of it being a pendant, the frame is flexible to accommodate movement of the body. The diamonds surrounding the sapphire are F-color. The clarity is VS1. We used an non-heat treated sapphire because we believe it refracts more pure light. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Pendant length and width:47.5mm*34.5mm Unheated Sapphire 7.79ct 14.3mm*10.69mm*6.14m TAGS: Pendant, diamonds, made in Taiwan, VIA jewelry RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As stated previously, no research was needed for this design or its construction. CHALLENGE: There were no significant research or creative challenges because this was a single piece for a client.
