| DESIGN NAME: Ovo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lounge Chair INSPIRATION: One of the inspirations for this design was the famous Peacock Chair, its disproportional backrest size was one of elements we played with for Ovo Lounge Chair, which contrasts with the lightness of the structure and upholster. Its organic shapes and curves are usual characteristics of our designs and combined, creates a contemporary yet warm piece. Our goal was also to create a sleek but comfortable lounge chair that would fit into small spaces, to meet the needs and new habits of life. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ovo Lounge Chair has a minimalist metal base and slim backrest and seat. Its simple panels can be upholstered in fabric or leather and combination of shapes and contrast of fabrics gives it a strong personality. Poltrona Ovo works both for residential as well as in contract contexts considering its very resilient and sophisticated. The combination of fabrics and colors gives it a playful and casual feel despite its slender profile. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Poltrona Ovo is a lean yet elegant piece of furniture that fits perfectly into residential and contract-commercial spaces. It can be done all in one fabric or mixed up to 3, creating an unique and fun statement. The upholstery of the lounge chair is sleek but very comfortable and has an roll pillow for aesthetics. The structure is made of carbon steel round tubes with powder coated finish for better durability. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in September 2017 in Sao Paulo and finished in February 2018 in Sao Paulo, and was launched at a local trade fair. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials used was steel for the base and panels fully upholstered for the backrest and seat. Fabric is 100% natural linen. The panels have a medium density coat of foam and it is attached to the base from the bottom and back (apparent). Panels are CNC cut allowing plugged construction of the upholstered parts and perfect fit and finish. Upholstery is manually made and finished on the piece. Metal for the base are shaped manually, using templates developed for the Ovo lounge chair. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 650mm x 700mm x 800mm 1/2" diameter steel 100% linen fabric TAGS: Lounge Chair, Comfort, Sleek, Brazil, Linen RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Type of research includes historical pieces, like the Peacock chair, architectural shapes, proportions, color schemes and materials library. The research objectives is always to bring together possibilities and inspiration before starting sketching process. After that methodology consists in sketching dozens of possibilities at least so we can later on look at everything together and combine best ideas for function, construction, angles and shapes that result in the aimed aesthetic. All research o references, materials, colours and sizes take in consideration the environment we live in and movements such as smaller apartments-houses reality and the goal of creating an carefully designed and statement piece that could also fit in small spaces. CHALLENGE: The main research challenge on the creative process for Poltrona Ovo was to achieve the right lightness of the upholstery but maintaining the comfort.
