| DESIGN NAME: Two in One PRIMARY FUNCTION: Backpack INSPIRATION: The Two in One backpack is inspired by the contemporary way of living in cities that sets people's everyday life away from their home from day to night. We have sought for an adjustable accessory-bag that may be easily transformed in order to "carry" different styles and make contemporary life comfortable. We are proposing the Two in One backpack as a smart solution to carry a backpack and a clutch together. Furthermore, the mix and match idea provides the opportunity of a customized bag, among a variety of covers being proposed. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The two in one backpack is a multi-functional bag. It is a backpack with a top-clutch which can be easily removed and they can both be used separately; the backpack with or without the top and the top as a clutch. At the same time, this backpack is designed to be used as a canvas for different styles, through mix and match; the result is a plain base with multiple combinations. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There is a zip sewed at the back of this backpack providing it with the possibility of attaching or removing a top. The top is designed and manufactured with a zip sewed at its bottom, so it can be easily zipped/unzipped at the backpack, and a secret leather strap at its side so it can be pulled outside or inside depending on the use. The backpack fabric has a plain color, so it can be easily mixed and matched among the variety of top-clutches designed for multiple and different combinations. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2017 in Thessaloniki for the SS18 collection, and was exhibited in Athens Fashion Trade Show in January 2018. The SS19 collection was exhibited in Greek Brand New and Athens Fashion Trade Show in January 2019. The Two in One backpack has a high impact and until now we continuously develop its potentials, by adding new materials and patterns. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Two in One backpack has been used as a cut-out for autumn/winter collection with waterproof fabrics and for spring/summer collection with a cabot and oxford fabric. Except of its utility as a timeless backpack and clutch, there was an additional challenge during the design process; to integrate the mix and match idea. So, we have created a variety of unique patterns and colors, applied on fabrics for the tops through digital printing process. We work upon the pattern design, colors, fabrics and other materials for almost 5 months until the final version. Each bag is handcrafted in a local small workshop in Greece. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Size of backpack: Width 36 cm X Depth 12cm X Height 41 cm Size of clutch: Width 36 cm X Height 22 cm TAGS: Artpeckers, Twoinone, Backpack, Mixandmatch, Patterns RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main research was made upon the daily needs of a contemporary woman and the product gap. We worked out the space needed during any time of day in combination with the material choice depending on the season. The fabrics and colors are occurred to respond to the wider age range of modern females. Regarding the transformation is conceived to be operated in the simplest way, so to be practical in use and safe from taking. Additionally, our approach is to tell a story via our products by drawing inspiration from Greek myths and tales for our unique patterns, based on geometrical forms. CHALLENGE: The most challenging part was to design a bag that could offer to its user sufficient space and also an elegant appearance, at the same time. It was difficult to combine these two types of bags in order to have a consistent result and simultaneously suit best in different appearances through day. NAME: Artpeckers PROFILE: The story of Artpeckers has started at a small workshop in Thessaloniki by Kimon (civil engineer), Elli and Dimitris (architects) in 2015. From the very beginning, their intention was to design and create unique accessories with a certain character; accessories that could deliver and tell a story. In a short while their interest was focused on objects inspired by Greek culture and mythology. Geometrical forms and patterns are applied on fabrics, wood and silver for bags and jewels. Trying to preserve their main intention, the team gives all its best from the birth of an idea till the final image of the products, by setting up a concept through Iro's photographic lens. The philosophy of the team is to maintain and spread Greek culture and mythology stories all over the world through design. But, not only the identity of inspiration is Greek; all the production begins and ends in Artpeckers' -or their collaborators' - workshops in Thessaloniki while the team cooperates with suppliers producers established in Greece. Their eagerness motivates them to keep on creating and experimenting on new materials. Based on new ideas they continuously develop their collections so to spread stories from Greece all over the world! |
