DESIGN NAME: Bimby
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Inflatable Ride On
INSPIRATION: My main idea was to design a ride on, that would perform exceptionally in interior spaces. I wanted to create a product that was innovative, in both its design and look. I drew inspiration from my own young child and created a product that was quiet, soft and safe for children.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Bimby is an inflatable ride on. With natural shock absorbers, it has been designed specifically for a smooth ride for children. It comes in a flat, small package, which is easy for shipping and storage. An exciting and safe way, for your child to burn their endless energy!
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The product comes in a small, flat package. It is assembled by inflating the main vinyl body and then attaching the four wheels.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started two years ago. The initial concept happened in one long industrious night, which involved continual testing of my ideas. In early 2019, I modified and polished the design, to produce the product as seen today. The concept created in Israel.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main structure of the product is made of soft thick vinyl. This stands over a solid wheel base which is made of plastic, aluminum and wood.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The dimensions of the overall product are:- 28cm x 43cm x 25cm. The product is delivered flat packaging and is inflated before the first ride. One of the main goals of this project, was to create a product that could be easily and economically shipped.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I noticed that most of the ride on's in the market, had not considered the noise that the product generated. These products were being made of hard plastic or wood, instead of using materials that were much safer and softer for children. In my research I checked and tested a multitude of ride on products. I started to develop in my mind all the areas and functions that I wanted to improve on. I changed the wheels to silicone ones, which helped create a smoother and quieter ride. I used a soft construction to achieve natural shock absorption. This structure aided collisions to be absorbed gently with the child’s body. After all these areas were attended to, I thought about using an inflatable structure. I also had the idea at this point to design a product that was clean and fresh, with both retro and modern segments in mind.
CHALLENGE: The challenge centered around how I could create a ride on, that was safe, soft, quiet and well designed. The key feature was to use soft materials in the main structure, and to understand how to connect them in a correct and solid way, to the wheels base.
