PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Radio Frequency Identification Device

INSPIRATION:
Most of the scanning equipment used in traditional stores are bulky and lumpish. In China, shop assistants are mainly female, and the heavy equipment is not conducive to the use of female clerk. So we think that it might be a good opportunity to design a scanner which is more portable, lightweight and beautiful for female shop assistants. The design was inspired by the curvature of the swan's neck, and on this basis, it has been adjusted to be more ergonomic.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
SQ55 is an innovation of RFID (radio frequency identification device) design. Traditional RFID focuses on warehouse users and looks heavy and huge. The new generation of RFID is designed for female retailer users and it is more elegant and portable. It can quickly scan up to 200 pieces in a long distance and store 59,000 at once. Even when it is out of battery, the scanned information can be saved automatically. It is very small in size and light in weight, easily to hold and convenient to use. In order to efficiently transfer the scanned information, it can be connected with mobile through Bluetooth. Based on proprietary efficient digital signal processing algorithm, RoyaIRay UHF hander supports fast tag read/write operation with high identification rate. They can be widely applied in many RFID application systems such as Logistics, Personnel Identification, Access control, Anti-counterfeit, Quality Supervision Industrial production, process control system and Assets management, etc.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Shenzhen in June2017 and finished in April 2018. It was exhibited at Guangzhou Design Week in November 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Except for the strip heat-sink, the other parts of the product are injection molded using a mold. The surface of the upper housing is treated with as-mold leather texture, and the lower housing is sprayed with metal lacquer. In order to have a good heat release function, heat-sink release part is made of aluminum alloy and it treatment by anodized.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:

CHALLENGE:
Heat-sink and weight balance would the key issue that designer has to take care of. For heat-sink issue, we change housing around the high-frequency of antenna area from PC to aluminum alloy, which means it will increase the product’s weight and its balance point will be moved to front-end of main-unit. It might cause people to feel uncomfortable when using it for a long time. We have made many block models for balance testing.
