| DESIGN NAME: Astron Shape Shifting Rug PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shape Shifting Rug INSPIRATION: In cold climates like in Sweden we do love Rugs as it is warm and and lifts a room to be more comfortable. While traveling in countries with warmer climates I did notice that Rugs where much more absent often in rooms with stone floors. I imagined that Rugs could add warmth and comfort during the cold season even in these countries, so that is where the idea came to life. A Bench where to store the pieces easily when not in use was also essential for me and at the same time have Bench to sit on UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This Rug is designed specifically for countries with varm summers and where a Rug is only desired in the cold season like autumn and winter. The bench has a function with a lid where the Rug pieces easily will fit and can be kept when not in use. It is also possible for the user to form different designs depending on how the Rug pieces are placed next to each other. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Rug Tiles are easy to place differently to form a different outcome which will involve the rug owner to explore different formations according to the the occasion. Easy to store in the storage under seat on bench when not in use. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Hand tufted Rug tiles made from NZ wool. The neatly attached antislip material secures each Rug tile perfectly to stay in place. Focus with this product, it needs tone easy to store when not in use and to be able to change the outcome when placing the tiles in different directions. The iron Bench has a wheel barrow function and storage under the seat. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Rug tiles: 400mmx400mm 1200mmx400mm Bench: 1200mmx400mmx540mm TAGS: rug tiles, convertible rug tile, area rug, Tufted antislip wool tiles, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research was mainly about with what kind of rug is easy to store for customers who do not need a rug during the hot summer season. Important also that the user has the possibility to change divide and be part of the creative process while placing the Rug tiles differently to form a different size and design. People living in Portugal,Spain and Italy was my focus during the research. The Bench also has a wheelbarrow function, is made of steel and has a storage under the removable seat. These rug tiles are very suitable also for entrances and lobbys as the tile are easy to replace when cleaning is needed. CHALLENGE: Once the design and purpose was in place it all fell in place very smoothly. I did get help with the production of the iron Bench from a black smith Yngve Nordmark. The rug tiles where produced by a small family company in India. The ulterior clients are for customers who wish a warming rug on the floor during the cold season, as this product is easily stored away if desired in the Wheel barrow Bench during the warm and hot season. Also very much suited for lobbys and boutique entrances as the Rug tiles can be placed in various different creative formations to enhance and enfold with the interior and other products displayed. |
