DESIGN NAME: Sushi Palace
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Japanese Cuisine Restaurant
INSPIRATION: Shyobu, means competition in Japanese.
In addition to allocating the proportion of ingredients and to struggling the taste preferences of guests, professional chefs have to "Shyobu" themselves everyday. Therefore we made the dining bar as a metaphor of the "Dohyo", the Japanese traditional tournament: Sumo's arena field where the sacred skilled competition is hold. Wish to have the owner's "main arena" understood by the public through the association of Sumo competition, expecting not only to touch gourmand's the tip of the tongue but also to stir up numerous reverberations in their hearts.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To display the atmosphere of Sumo arena, the Dohyo and hanging roofs, portraying the face-to-face confrontation scene between the sushi master and the gourmet.
Accordingly, with the design concept of the home field, thousands of audience gaze at the victory and defeat on the Dohyo, which is not only the result of the confrontation between the master and the gourmet, but also the bet of the master on his own culinary art.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: From the scenes of Edo period (for it's a period when sushi gradually became an option in Japanese cuisine culture) gently enters to the scenes of modern era (Heisei age, AD 1989-2019), we put our finest prayer of admiring the traditional Japanese cuisine and culture in the main visual and wishes it could be experienced by the public through ambling along the construction.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The most important technique while drafting the concept, is to present the squared sushi bar as the battlefield-like arena of the Japanese national sport "Sumo" (as known as Dohyo). We focused on bringing forward the sacredness of the Sumo's combat to the bar counter, to present the prior scene for every costumer.
