DESIGN NAME: Vector – Vacuity vs. Reality
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: This is a four-story residential building construction and interior design project. The elongated construction site allows for the design of the building’s facade.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The building’s exterior features precast concrete panel-like coating with faux wood grain texture, as well as dark-colored pebble paver and solid wood steel door. The entrance of the building is intentionally designed on the side to create a natural vestibule between the interior and exterior.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The interior materials are consistent with that of the building’s facade.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in Oct. 2013 in Zhubei City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The consistent theme is also applied to the outside of the building, avoiding visual interruptions in the facade due to the entrance on the first floor. The overall exterior appearance consists of precast concrete panels complemented by longitudinal openings, hidden balcony space, metal railing, and glass. The faux precast concrete wall facade expands from the first floor to the fourth floor, forming a complete architectural entity.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The space is 264.5 square meters

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The first floor accommodates public areas such as the living room and kitchen. The stone material on the vestibule wall and the longitudinal windows on the external wall forge a dialogue between the inside and the outside. Internally, the independent TV wall is used to bolster storage space and living room space, as well as to infuse interesting elements into the environment. In the living room, sofas with unique styling and saturated colors are matched with the 3D cloud decoration on the main walls to highlight the spatial character.
CHALLENGE: Both sides of the entertainment room are equipped with fabric to dampen sound, and the wooden grille on the ceiling and metal open shelf at the back serves to amplify the sound, demonstrating the designer’s ingenuity in achieving the best entertainment effect by utilizing the most appropriate materials.
