DESIGN NAME: 788 Star Club
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Clubhouse
INSPIRATION: The design concept of LIFE and NATURE is incorporated with different elements such as water droplets, haze, rock wall, and bamboo forest, aimed to express the artistic conceptions through means of abstract techniques.
As the clubhouse’s owner is an art collector, the spacing of the collections in the clubhouse is of utmost importance. The rough stone wall texture is contrasted with the exquisite and delicate collection as a reflection of Hidden treasures in a cave.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With the illumination of the lights, the irregular glass hangings at the entrance form different sizes of water droplets on the white stone platform. This special effect is as a full reflection of all the water shapes. A pair of small elephants have been placed on both sides of the gate, facing the stone platform to absorb the water therein. In Chinese tradition, water symbolizes fortune.
The ceiling of the restaurant hangs blister lighting of varying sizes, which echoes the whole space. Rain drops, evaporates into moisture then forms cloud. This cycle connects the elements of the entrance, waiting area and restaurant which enchanted the design as a whole. Bamboos of different shapes are used to increase the layering of the space. Most bamboos grow in the watery area and bamboo symbolizes the elegant gentlemen in ancient China. The gathering of bamboo into a forest in the clubhouse implied the gathering of a group of like-minded friends.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Right behind the entrance is a small waiting area with a tripod in the middle. This tripod is one of a highlight among the antiques collections. This precious piece of antique was originally used in the palace of the Qing Dynasty in China for burning incents. Our designer casts an imaginary haze image at the end of the wall to intertwine the tripod with the overall design. Images of haze coming out from the tripod could be seen from varied angles.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started in April 2018 and finished in November 2018, located in Hengdian, China.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The club's owner is one of the Hengdian World Studio and he admires the Chinese historical culture, he wished us to design the club which can deliver the Chinese historical culture in a modern way. Hence, we designed to incorporate digital visual technology as the feature design element of the 788 Club to integrate to the interior design.
CHALLENGE: As Hengdian is a fourth-tier city in China, hence to execute a design project is difficult for the local contractor in terms of their experience, particular works on the details and workmanship. Before the site commencement and during the site coordination, our designers were spending much more effort and time to review mockups and samples in such a short period of time, in order to achieve the design expectation of this project.
