PRIMARY FUNCTION: Desk Lamp
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the work,every time I leave the desktop,I always forget to turn off the desk lamp,and I will put the pen on the desktop at will,but I can't find the pen after returning.I want to improve these two bad behaviors at the same time to achieve a better experience.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Groove desk lamp is designed for desktop workers. It integrates the functions of the desk lamp and the pen tray. When working,pick up the pen and the desk lamp will automatically turn on. When leaving,put the pen into the base pen tray of the desk lamp,and the desk lamp will automatically turn off.Providing a new way of interacting for the desk lamp allows people to develop a good habit of turning off the lights and saving electricity. It also simplifies the use process.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When you need to use the desk lamp,you only need to remove the pen and the desk lamp will light up.When you finish the work,you only need to put the pen into the slot,and the light will slowly dim until it is closed.The knob on the base is used to adjust the brightness,as well as the switch of the console light.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in Hangzhou in October 2018 and was completed in Wuhan in January 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main body is injection molded with ABS plastic.
The automatic switching of the lamp is achieved by providing a sensor at the recess of the base.The sensor is used to detect if an object is placed in the slot to control the automatic switching of the lamp.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the era of artificial intelligence,traditional products such as desk lamps can not only meet the lighting needs,but also become more "smart" to enhance the user experience.
However, through voice interaction or mobile phone control,it will undoubtedly increase R&D costs,production costs and user usage costs.
For a low-cost everyday product such as a desk lamp,conforming to people's behavioral habits is the way to enhance the interactive experience.
CHALLENGE: At the beginning of the research, we focused on the innovation of interaction mode, guiding users through modeling, and ensuring the coordination and innovation of the base and swing arm shape. The first solution neglected the arrangement of the light source, and the light part will directly hit the user's eyes and affect the user experience.
