DESIGN NAME: The Solitude
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: This design is inspired by the Chinese idiom (zhèn shí shù liú), which describes living the solitude life in nature; the hermit would sleep on pillows made of stones, and cleanse in the streams. The materials and colors used in this design are carefully chosen to transcribe the inner wisdom between human and nature. It is an esthetic space which we create to present the balance between nature, humanity, and art existing in harmony.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Solitude is fabricated through three essential parts; the calming blue spaces shape the areas of the structure, the strong salient metal forms the line, and the warm marble texture bolsters its surface. By using negative space between each sectors, the circulation of this living space is broadened and given different layers.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design concept stems from maximizing functionality – with a minimalist approach to shaping spaces.
Given the emphasis of the design on the original beam and column system, the overall spatial organization becomes more efficient with better connection and division. The close juxtaposition and thoughtful distancing of distinct geometric objects and materials to create the mobility of natural lights and shades – a harmonious ambience is created from a natural palette wood and whie iron.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Thorough spatial consideration also extends to the interconnection between the living room, dining room and kitchen – valuing the interactions between family members in the passageways, for example, while attending to the privacy of rooms. To complete its balance and open layout, soft-fitting furniture and accessories enrich the rhythm of the spatial progression.
CHALLENGE: Leaving the complexities behind, the pursuit of seamless integration between the living environment and their occupants in this project has taken one step ahead in promoting peace and harmony despite stressful urban living.
