DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Turkey Tail

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Center Table

INSPIRATION:
this and that’s forest collection is a passageway into the tropical rain-forest of Borneo that I encountered on my recent travels. At the end of the day the limitless sources of inspiration for any artist is nature. Exploring the leafy constructions, micro-ecology , unique tree species and the varied types of fungi, I was overwhelmed by the endless possibilities of textures and arrangements that one could draw from the lush and secluded forest.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The collection, involving a series of tables, benches and shelving made of all natural wood like Paduk, Haldi, Wenga, teak and Walnut from the deep interiors of Gujarat, India, is not only functional but a sculptural one. The reinterpretation of the forestland is done with a clear motive of staying true to the nature and conceiving organic forms in earthy tones. The sculptural furnishings demonstrate uneven shapes and natural imperfections that make up the intrinsic beauty of the pieces.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The key factor that makes our Turkey Tail Table stand out is it's inlay work done by our crafts men using natural coloured wood to give a feel of nature and conceiving organic forms.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
the project started in July 2018 and was displayed In the AD design show in October 2018

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The product is a combination of MS metal base and solid wood inlayed Design. We have used Paduk (Red colour), Wenga ( Black colour), Walnut (chocolate brown) , Oak (white) and Teak (tawny brown), they have been used keeping in mind their natural colours. These woods are available locally in and around Gujarat, India.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
762 mm (W) x 762 mm (D) x 406.4 mm (H)

TAGS:
furniture , centre tables, fungi, turkey tail fungi, accent pieces

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The challenge was to make inlay with different local woods in their natural colour in an irregular manner. The design has 3 different levels and sizes of shelves hence balancing and proportion was important. The inlay work is done by cnc machines and hand crafted achieve the design.

CHALLENGE:
I had a clear vision as to what I wanted to create, the challenge was in sourcing the material needed. I did not want to use any artificial wood or stained colour, it was a challenge to source locally available wood in their natural colour as per the design. After a lot of sampling and obstacles I created various layers using natural coloured wood using inlay methods.
