| DESIGN NAME: WaWa Story PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hand Puppet Theater INSPIRATION: Parents and teachers may use the puppet theater and the packing box for optimal interaction with children, making the puppet a good friend of the child. The way the puppet telling stories blends in daily discipline, developing children ability to self care. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: WaWa Story is an interactive hand puppet theater that is concerned with the parent and child relationship and education. The packing box portrays different stories and backgrounds as the story paper cards and situation slides are changed. The app assisted box may insert a tablet to identify spoken keywords, creating more animated and realtime background image changes for the purpose of illustration and immediate educational impact. The puppet is designed to change costumes based on different characters to develop characters diversity as the story develops. Its app assisted operation brings in vivid expressions and voice simulation, making story telling more lively and vivid. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Using the traditional puppet making method, the puppet is made of wool fabrics and sewed with a facial expression. The puppet's facial pocket is designed to place a smart phone. The package conceives the puppet’s performance stage. Die cut is performed after a corrugated cardboard is printed. Story scene cards and transparent films are attached as replaceable accessories. The EVA material is used to create a fixed space for a smart tablet. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The overall package size is 42 X 22.5 X 28.5 cm. iphone X and another smart device of the same size can be placed in the puppet's facial pocket. ipad2 and another smart tablet of the same size can be placed inside the package. TAGS: hand puppet, parent and child relationship, story paper cards, realtime background image, app assisted RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The overall research of WaWa Story focuses on the emotional communication between preschool children and their parents. Asian parents and children communicate with smart devices. Featuring traditional storytelling using a puppet, the product presents the expressions and story scenes with an existing smart device, which enhances its appeal to children and reduces the pressure on parents to read and communicate. An oral identification system is also added to allow parents to present the corresponding picture through the guidance of the keyword. CHALLENGE: The biggest difficulty is the combination of smart devices and traditional puppets. The product hopes that preschool children can truly touch a traditional and figurative puppet instead of a plastic robot, so the puppet’s emotions are conveyed through its eyes and voices. An oral identification system is also added to the scenes presented on the tablet, which allows storytellers to present the corresponding picture through the guidance of the keyword. NAME: Institute for Information Industry PROFILE: Where We Started In the early 1970s, Taiwan faced crucial challenges arising from global energy crisis and trade protectionism implemented by industrial countries. It thus became top priority of the government to come up with policies on industrial and economic development so as to transform the traditional industrial model into the technology intensive industrial model and to increase Taiwan’s competitiveness. On 17th May 1979, Executive Yuan passed the “Proposal on Science and Technology Development” in its 1663 Grand Meeting, resolving to incorporate a non governmental organization “Institute for Information Industry” (“III”) through the joint efforts of public and private sectors. Later on 24th July, with persistent efforts from past Senior Advisor to the Presidency, Mr. Kuo Ting Li, III was established so as to “promote effective application of information technology, increase national comprehensive competitiveness, create preconditions and environment for information industry to develop, and to strengthen the competitiveness of information industry.” In recent 40 years, III has taken part in planning and promoting public policies related to information industry. It has contributed to the pioneer research and development in information and communication technology, the deepening and broadening of information applications, the training and education of talents in this field and the participation in building infrastructure for national information technology. III’s achievements have been widely recognized. In recent years, following the rapid changes in the global environment, III has modified its objectives and missions as follows: Objectives To increase innovative applications of ICT technology and to facilitate the development of digital economy. Positioning The Think Tank for Digital Country Development. The Organization for the Research and Development of Digital Economy, Industrialization, and Talent Cultivation.
