DESIGN NAME: Health Kit for Home Use
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Medical Device Set
INSPIRATION: Ergonomic considerations were the main inspiration. The three combined products are especially used constantly by elders and the sick who need to keep their health data in check. These users often have reduced motor function skills so a big handle and a large interface makes it easier for them to use the devices autonomously. Also the resting position of the users were considered in having the screen angled and easy to see while placed on a standing surface.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This health kit brings together three essential measuring device in controlling the health at home: blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter and thermometer. This vital data constantly needs to be tracked to designate anomalies. This product with its aesthetic design brings the three and the data recording interface together in a tidy manner to offer an enhanced medical experience at home. The large handle is thought especially for the ergonomics of users with decreased motor function skills.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The user measures the physical conditions they need with one or all of the three separate devices. For measuring the blood pressure, the cuff is taken out of its cabin on the main body. After the measurements, the results can be seen and recorded on the monitor to keep the track. When the user is done, they place the individual items back to their places and the cuff inside the main body, then place the kit neatly back to where it stands.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started on January 2018. In april the design was decided on and the engineering process started. In may the prototype was ready and in June the moulding process started. All the stages took place in Istanbul, Turkey.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We went through the processes of market analysis, field research with elders, patients, patient carers and everyday home users in order to designate which criteria we should focus on. We observed standard equipment usage process. The track record was done manually on a notebook if done. The tools had a medical look which imposed negative psychology and seemed messy if placed visibly so they were hid in cupboards. Handling was an issue for users with decreased motor function skills.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was creating the looks of aesthetics to beat the stigma caused of having medical instruments around while designing for accessibility for a variety of users with different physical and mental skills, plus neatly packing the instruments in a simplistic and practical way.
