| DESIGN NAME: 2402 Flat PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House INSPIRATION: When we think of home, cozy and relaxing will rank the popular description. To access the objective cozyness,we break down the original partitioning to invite the air and sunshine to decorate the space and make it warm and cozy in a natural way. The second design objective relaxation is achieved by connecting space together through using flexible and hidden sliding doors to extend the space as a whole union. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is an 89-meter-square flat on the 24th floor with north-south cross ventilation and sufficient sunshine but original layout blocks them off. We reconstructed the layout to utilize the existing advantage of natural elements, used flexible sliding partitioning, connected the air, sunshine and space together. White and wood color tone create sense of peace and simplicity, meanwhile orange brown sofa, black grilles and grey marble add urban vividness to the whole harmonious space. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We consider the function according to the needs of clients. 3 rooms are combined into 2 rooms. The hostess need a spacious wardrobe so one guest room is grouped into the host living room after breaking down the concrete walls. Another guest room is retained but is also transformed to be a multifunctional space, when guest visits, it can be a living room, and it normally open as a connected space with the hall acting as a reading room and musical instruments playing room. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 89 Square meters, Width13200mm*Depth68 TAGS: residence, interior, flexibility, simplicity, urban RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Zhuangzi, the most famous Taoism advocator in the history of China, once put up with the idea around the endless beauty of simplicity. He said, the beauty of simplicity was most lasting, powerful and intrinsic. The inspiration of this project comes from it and we insist to reject redundant adornment, to give it back a simple, peaceful, relaxing atmosphere with focus on the truth of essence. CHALLENGE: The cost to replace all the concrete walls with flexible wooden and glass materials to enlarge the space is the most difficult task to communicate with the clients.
