| DESIGN NAME: The Jiuxitang Model House PRIMARY FUNCTION: Model House INSPIRATION: Chengdu City is in Sichuan Province, southwestern China. The area is historically acclaimed as the Ancient Kingdom of Paradise for its pretty natural landscapes, long cultural history, and unique food style. The western Chengdu, where the project is located, is best suitable for peaceful dwelling. The project integrates the leisurable life style of traditional western Chengdu and the contemporary life interests and needs through a design which interweaves the spatial concepts of traditional courtyard and vivid urban landscape painting. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The designer deeply excavated the contemporary people's taste of the times and the needs of life. In this case, the modern low luxury, natural and humanistic personality design was mixed, and the design of the luxury and the shackles was adhered to, and the leisurely life style of Chengdu was adhered to. In the same vein, it conveys the beauty of the garden and the beauty of the dark fragrance. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The central design idea can be called the collaged folded space lived by a typical Chinese family of three generations. The house contains two floors, the reception dining hall, kitchen, grandparents’ bedroom, and laundry on the first floor, the master bedroom and kids’ bedrooms on the second. The design attempts to collage the cultural and social contradictions of tradition and modernity, landscape and domesticity, old and young generations, and fold them into communicative and symbolic spaces for peaceful life. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2017 in Shenzhen and finished in January 2018 in Chengdu, China. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design selects stone materials which show natural landscape textures and the artistic tapestries of traditional Chinese landscape paintings, adopts champagne-golden stainless steels, matches with dark grey wooden panels, warm grey wall papers, artistic glass and stone mosaic surfaces, and scatters some natural creature symbols and artistic installations for touching mystic depth of consciousness. The entire space demonstrates a fresh interpretation of life through seeking the subtle balance between splendor and humility in materials. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The lower stack is mainly divided into two upper and lower floors. The first floor is perfect for its type function and human flow line. The guest restaurant, the elderly room and the laundry room are respectively set up. The second floor is a static space. The master room, boy room and girl room are set. TAGS: Modern, natural, Humanities, art space RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designer deeply excavated the contemporary people's taste of the times and the needs of life. In this case, the modern low-luxury, natural and humanistic personality design was mixed, and the design of the luxury and the shackles was adhered to, and the leisurely life style of Chengdu was adhered to. In the same vein, it conveys the beauty of the garden and the beauty of the dark fragrance. CHALLENGE: The main challenges of this project are the very tight construction deadline, comparatively low budget, and the difficulties of installing the soft and hard-textural materials at the same time during construction. Other challenges for design are to create artistic spaces which can respond to local cultural identity and meanwhile maintain an active dialogue between the memory of eastern tradition and the creative interpretation of modernity across cultural differences.
