DESIGN NAME: Fratizelli - The Architect
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Watch
INSPIRATION: The timepiece and ultra modern buildings share the same geometric forms and modernist ideals that the Ultra Modern movement is known for.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Architect's core has a sapphire glass with femto laser engraved pattern. 2 stripes per each of the sixty minutes. Sapphire glass is protected by the stainless steel case made with ultra-precise wire-edm technology.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Architect's patter inside the sapphire glass is consisting of 120 lines. It's possible to tell the time in the same why as a regular watch because the engraved lines are where the minute markers should be.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Architect is a work of over a year of research, design, refinement, and development.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: For being able to produce the exoskeleton with thin walls, additive wire-edm of 316L stainless steel had to be used. The sapphire glass is are machined out of single billet of sapphire block. The pattern inside the glass is produced by a company named FEMTOprint. FEMTOprint is a proprietary 3D printing technology that uses light as a powerful ink source. Submicron resolution is easily obtained by using low-energy pulses of ultra-fast laser radiation.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Case size: 40 x 50 mm. Case thickness: 9 mm. Strap size: 24 mm. Sapphire glass: 30 x 40 mm. Swiss Made automatic movement made by Vaucher.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project demanded an extensive investigation of the historical design of luxury wristwatches. You have to be familiar with the latest materials and technologies and their limits to fully use their potential to create a new approach on an analog timepiece with a traditional two hand movement.
CHALLENGE: The Architect had to be an elegant analog luxury timepiece, yet unconventional, ultra modern and authentic. It was strong challenge not to overdo it and keep the lines and shapes clean and symmetrical. Watches can have many features, but their essential function is to show the time clearly and unmistakably.
