| DESIGN NAME: Wuhan Oct Yuan An PRIMARY FUNCTION: Showroom INSPIRATION: The aesthetic of mountains and water is an important branch of Chinese philosophy. The project YUAN AN is located at Wuhan, a Chinese city surrounded by mountains and water. Based on such context, the abstraction of mountains and water dominants the atmosphere of the interior space. Through the creation of a story-living space, the artistic philosophy and aesthetic enjoyment are daily and hourly exercising an invisible, formative influence on the residents. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is situated at East Lake Scenic Area, surrounded by mountains and water. Based on such context, we envisioned a series of intangible elements which can be only perceived by rational thinking rather than sensory organs, and made use of the laws concerning movement and change of matter in the overall spatial design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We brought natural formations into the interior space, with the rippling water constituting the fugue in space, and the rolling hills forming the counterpoint. Optical fibers hang from the ceiling, looking like the spray of a waterfall. The mountain-shaped sofa and dining chairs, and the water-shaped ceiling and counter, together give the overall space a unique ambience. Space, furniture and decorations are interdependent and interactive, producing an artistic and harmonious indoor environment. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We used 3D parametric design to create sophisticated natural formations by precise calculations, making the space unique and artistic. And we applied experiential artistic light focusing on sensory experience, with thousands of drop-shaped illuminants gathering at the end of optical fibers and forming a "waterfall" SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Category: residence Area: 300sqm TAGS: T.K. CHU Design, residence, show flat, landscape, Tao, story-living, experiential design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The interior design features two key elements: mountain and water. The image of rolling hills was created in the space, generating the visual effect of contraposition and staggered position. Besides, rippling water was arranged orderly, constitute the fugue in the space. Based on the abstract imagery of Chinese culture, the spirit of earth and cultural landscape, we created metaphysical sensory experience. There is no need for artworks in the space, because the space itself is a work of art. CHALLENGE: 1. Since there is rigorous mathematical logic and geometric order in natural phenomena, we tried to use parametric models to create natural forms of mountains and water. And the challenge was to find suitable materials (e.g. artificial stone) with limited budget. 2.
