| DESIGN NAME: Fading Away PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hand Ornament INSPIRATION: Everytime you woke up from a dream, the scene seems clearly visible. But in two or three minutes, it will be fading away bit by bit. No matter how hard you try, it is hard to remember the dream as a real thing. It disappears from your memory, leaving no trace. This happens every day. So I hope to express the story with my work. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In the past, we believe that the heart is the carrier of consciousness, and it pumps the blood through vessels to maintain the movement of life. This design uses fine lines as blood vessels which are woven into the shape of a heart. The metal meshing with partial replacement of transparent material signify empty, which shows the moment when a dream is fading while you catch it in vain. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The form of heart represents the dream and the consciousness. The wearer's hand intertwines with the heart, turning the consciousness of capturing into an actual item. In this way, both the wearer and the viewer can feel the artistry and mystery. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Feb, 2018 and finished in Jun, 2018 in Guangzhou, China. It was exhibited in the Art Museum of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in Jul, 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Cast copper plated with 18K gold, PVC pipe SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 140mm-100mm-80mm TAGS: art jewelry, dreams, hand ornament RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After researching the ways other artists expressing dreams through case study, I finally decide to use the shape of heart as a modeling element, and use lines to express the vanishing of dreams. Also I hope an irregular wearing way can elevate the artistry and mystery of the work. CHALLENGE: It is very difficult to choose a representational form to express the nihilistic dream. We made a lot of discussion at this stage. This ruleless model with interlacing space can not be achieved through traditional modeling technology. So I use the 3D printing to make a prototype, and then cast it through the traditional way.
