DESIGN NAME: Tau Lam Hong
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: In Taiwanese, Tau Lam Hong means "soaked in the southern breeze," or conceptually interpreted as "assimilated with cultural elements of the south." These simple words perfectly address the owner’s willingness and Antennae Designers Office’s intent: to form an identical, idea-concretizing household that is connected to the belonging historical Tainan area.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The sophisticated ceiling design and a visual illusion of a duplex created within this condo represent the traditional residence style of the southern Taiwanese. The living room was trimmed with the identical ceramic red, together with the decorative window grills that sum up the iconic Tainan attributes. Natural light is extensively and significantly introduced throughout the place, and the flooring and the architectural concrete of the kitchen form a sense of semi-open balcony to the facility.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Washed pebbles, real woods, and other selected natural components are long-lasting materials that will be enriched as time goes by with human interactions. The SGCC pole outside the walk-in closet witnesses the growth of the kids with laser-engraving. The elegant corner in the kitchen overlooking Anping Harbor, the historical cradle of Taiwanese culture and civilization, is the place the family eats, talks, and enjoys the peaceful moments.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2017 and finished in February 2018. It locates in Tainan City in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The concept to do the whole design is to design 60% only and leave 40% for the owners to present their own characters. Wooden work is the main material used in this project. All of the wooden furniture are designed and made by the male owner himself. Hence, Tau Lam Hong is also the three-year collection of the owner's wood work. The whole project is the combined effort outcome between the owner and the design.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Site area: 397 square meters / Indoor space: 297 square meters / Outdoor balcony: 100 square meters.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Antennae Designers Office took themselves as a supportive role to concretize imaginations of the owner to executable details, so that it can be truly identical with a sense of belonging for the host and Tainan, the surrounding area. Local cultural elements were decomposed then merged into design details, patterns, even materials in use, and all the woodwork were collaborations handcrafted by the owner himself with mortise & tenon technique.
CHALLENGE: The challenge is to search for house owners' memories of childhood and to make the combination with their local culture and life.
