| DESIGN NAME: Douban Movie Calendar 2019 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Calendar INSPIRATION: Director Theo Angelopoulos once said, "The only thing the movie can do is to make the time lapse sweet." What he said enlightened us to design the Douban Movie Calendar. Douban is a famous movie rating website in China. We hope that movies can make ordinary days full of joy and surprises. The bracket shape of the calendar comes from the cinema seat. We hope that this calendar is not only a timing tool. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Douban Movie Calendar is for the decorative purpose with a minimalist style, which can be used not only for office desktops, but also for the interior design. The calendar takes advantage of a simple metal bracket with a detachable ring. Users can take down a certain page of paper with a special day marked to collect or send it to friends. Each page of the calendar was printed with copyrighted movie stills and classic lines. In this way, the world of movies is connected to your life. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The day by day calendar of Douban Movie is a flip desk calendar instead of the tear-away one. Each calendar page is printed with stills and classic lines from the movie of the day. The binding ring can be taken off, so that user can collect the calendar page of a special day or give it to a friend. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2018 in Beijing and finished in September 2018 in Beijing, and was launched in the online shopping store in September 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The calendar bracket is made of 2mm steel, which is bent and formed by cutting and punching. It is baked at a high temperature of 200 degrees Celsius and adopts the electrostatic powder coating. The stainless-steel ring is formed by punching and bending, with the outside brushed and the inside polished. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: PACKAGE DIMENSIONS: Width 158mm x Depth 258mm x Height 145mm PRODUCT DIMENSIONS: Width 134mm x Depth 121mm x Height 220mm TAGS: Douban, Movie, Calendar, Gift, Minimalist RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We designed a special Ω-shaped stainless-steel ring with two-double structure on the top of the bracket to keep the paper neat and stable. The quality of 366 sheets has been tried and calculated many times, so that it can display high quality printing while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing volume. CHALLENGE: During the design, the biggest challenge is about the thickness of the paper. To make the printed calendar page more premium, the paper should be thick enough to avoid ink seeping into it. However, if the paper is too thick, a 366-page calendar will be 60mm thick or even more.
