PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Induction Cooktop

INSPIRATION:
The inspiration for the design came from the students who are having a hard time cooking new recipes and people who live in small apartments. Students tend to cook the same dishes to save time and for convenience. A lot of students think cooking as another work which gives them a lack of nutrition for their health but with the help of the digital technologies of today, Quiett gives the users a modern and unique cooking experiences. Given that needs, Quiett aims to help the demographic cook on their own and make the modern cooking lessons even more convenient.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Quiett is a modular induction cooktop that uses a streaming system to help users to cook. The design gives a unique cooking experience and it aims to help the user to cook on their own and make the modern cooking lessons even more convenient. The main board has one burner with a touch screen that lights underneath the smooth surface. Users can simply cast the screen of their phone by connecting the Quiett with Bluetooth and use it as a cookbook. This way, users can concentrate on what they are doing and keep their hands free. Also, the user can interact with other users and share their favorite recipes all from the convenience of the cooktop. The magnetic power keeps two cooktops connected and transfers electricity from the main board to other boards. The color of the LED on the round edge changes depending on the level of the heat.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The user can simply sync the screen of the phone by connecting Quiett with Bluetooth and play their favorite cooking videos or recipes on the surface while cooking. When the user needs more than one burner, they can simply attach another Quiett that has two burners on the top or left of the main board. Magnetic power keeps two cooktops connected and transfers electricity from the main board to other boards. The main board controls the modular units when they are connected. The color of the LED on the round edge changes depending on the level of the heat.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in August 2017 in The Design School at Arizona State University in the United States and ended in December 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Quiett uses a streaming system between the cooktop and your phone. The main technology of Quiett is an induction system which is safe, easy to use and clean. Most importantly, it saves more energy than the other gas or electric cooktops by heating the content faster. Quiett has a soft aluminum on the bottom and black glass for the top of the body.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research question was How AI services could be applied into the home appliances to create a smart home and accelerate the development of AI technologies for future generations? Through the preliminary and secondary research, data was collected and analyzed to discover the right insights. The main user research came into the conclusion that they have a lot of difficulties while cooking without any help of cooking videos or recipes. Interviews with both electrical and mechanical engineers were able to provide valuable resources and solid knowledge in regard to the feasibility of this concept.

CHALLENGE:
The challenge that was faced while designing Quiett was AI technology. AI system was initially embedded in this product to help the cooking process to users, but it has been removed to reduce the manufacturing cost to fulfill the target users. Instead of AI, the streaming system of the phone was used to improve the cooking experiences to the users. Also, the form development was another challenging part which had to be competitive enough to other induction cooktops in the market. In the end, the form ended up with a simple and sleek look to give a modern and unique design.
