| DESIGN NAME: TRANSFORMA PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendants INSPIRATION: When working on this collection the author referred to the pendant lights created by well-known designers. This theme was chosen by the author as she is constantly inspired by the simple forms and clear lines of the contemporary architectural and interior design objects. Namely the pendant lights often resemble jewelry artwork and that observation encouraged the designer to create a similar small object and try to place it in a totally different environment - a human body. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The author decided to develop the pendants with an additional function: each piece is transformable and can change its final shape allowing to have each time a bit more new pendant. Therefore the designer's challenge was not only esthetical but also technological - creation of the relevant shape and mechanism in a small piece with an adequate weight. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The shapes of these pendants can be easy changed by moving their parts, thus a little be new design can be achieved each time. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2018 and finished in the end of June 2018 in Moscow. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 3-d modelling, lost wax casting, assembling, finishing; nickel silver, rhodium (finish) and rubber cords SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Diameter - 35 mm Length - 400 mm TAGS: jewelry design, contemporary, pendant, mechanic, transformable RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designer conducted a research of the pendant lights and lamps created by contemporary designers, the first step included the research of shape and preliminary sketch of jewelry pieces based on that. The second step was to find the three references that would lead to creation of three pendants (transformable pendant lights - to transformable pendants). CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to create the mechanisms that would allow such small pieces to transform, observe the adequate weight and parameters to make the pendants wearable.
