DESIGN NAME: MANGMEE
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Purse
INSPIRATION: MANGMEE is a purse specially designed by the founder of Her Works “Tookta” for the A/W Collection 2018. In this collection, she portrays an aspiring story of Yao ethnic group, a minority group residing in the north of Laos with a longstanding history dated back to the 15th Century when they fled from the Chinese Civil War. Tookta integrates Yao culture and tradition into this purse by using the unique Yao adornment, resulting in this outstanding contemporary masterpiece.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This purse has a perfect combination between ethnic art and jewelries. The purse is made from hand sewing Yao ethnic pattern, indigo dyed and decorated with distinctive 92.5% silver ornament. The design is simple yet one-of-a-kind, perfect for social events, other functions and evening receptions.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This design aim to show case an Ethnic minority culture in Laos that are becoming extinct. We hope to preserve these culture and encourage ethnic women to value their tradition and earn extra income from their skills.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This design/project started in September 2017, and will end in October 2019 in Vientiane.

CHALLENGE: Dealing with ethnic people. It is very hard to find the right fabric for them to embroidery a good works. we changed materials for many time, and they live very far away with no internet access, so we have to travel a long distance to see them and to see if they are able to do, and it took one year to develop this product.
