| DESIGN NAME: Tearista PRIMARY FUNCTION: Automatic Tea Maker INSPIRATION: This design is inspired by the tea drinking culture in the fast-paced world and the desire of hassle-free healthy lifestyle. This is a fully programmable teapot catered for the time-poor tea lovers, who desire a nice cup of tea without much effort. The single touch design and the user-centric interface create seamless drinking experience. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is fully programmable for 5 different tea types with the precise steep times and water temperatures. Specific temperature and steeping time bring out the unique flavor and aroma of tea. The tea basket automatically lowers and rises once the pre-set temperature and steeping time are reached. The different tea types are shown on the respective buttons of high contrast display. Users can choose a delayed start to program the start time to be ready when they wake up in the morning and it will automatic keep warm for 60 minutes. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First, use the provided tea scoop to fill the basket with tealeaves. Slide the assembled basket on located within the glass jug. Choose the tea type by pressing the respective button. It has 5 preset tea types recommended for optimal brewing of green, black, white, herbal and oolong tea. The teapot is programmed with the optimal temperature for specific tea types. User can also set their preferred temperature. The lcd screen then displays the brewing temperature for the selected tea type. Press the tea button to start brewing. Once it reaches the optimal temperature the assembled basket will automatically lower into the heated water and rise to the top of the glass jug after brewing. Keep warm feature will activate and serve anytime! PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2016 and finished in July 2018 in Hong Kong, and is exhibited in Europe. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The tea basket automatically lowers and rises: both the basket lid and kettle’s long post is magnetic. It has a slick touch that makes the basket a cinch to remove yet firmly stay put during brewing. It starts keeping the tea warm for up to 60 minutes: set the timer according to the favorite brew, steeped and waiting for. Materials: plastic injection molding of ABS, Metal parts are stainless steel. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 218 mm x 284 mm x 266 mm for the tea maker overall size TAGS: Tea lovers, Tea maker RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This product is designed based on a series of qualitative market research on the global tea consumption. Interviews are conducted with targeted users and tea experts to develop the design solutions including the best tea brewing formula, design, functionality and user interface. Finally a few prototypes to test the usability. CHALLENGE: As there is a limited number of existing functional tea makers in the market, there isn't much reference, especially around designing the user interface and user-centric operation. As there are different tea brewing methods, it takes time to conduct research on the best tea brewing formula that fits the design and technology.
