| DESIGN NAME: The Weight Of Textile Story PRIMARY FUNCTION: Textile Design INSPIRATION: My work was inspired by Milan Kundera's novel "The unbearable lightness of being". "In the world of the eternal, the weight of unbearable responsibility lies heavily on every move we make." "If eternal return is the heaviest of burdens, then our life will stand against it, in all its splendid lightness. Is heaviness truly deplorable and lightness splendid?" In life, which things are positive for you? which things are negative? Are you sure? UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I against throwawayism. I aim to offer aesthetically and luxury durable products. In addition, I ask people to question the social value of textiles, which in turn may inspire us to think more deeply about ourselves. Its contemporary design, using both digital and hand-drawn techniques, the vivid colours and the its multiple uses make it unique. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In this collection, the garments are designed to be worn in a variety of ways, to use the prints effectively. However the design is digitally printed onto a fabric suitable for any purpose: fashion, upholstery and out-door use. The design can be modified and change its scale according to the size or item that it will be used on. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started as an idea in January 2018 in Hong Kong and finished in June 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The work was hand made firstly using water colours with brush on a canvas. Then they were scanned and imported into a computer, using a digital pen on a sketch pad and edited using the Adobe Illustrator. The design was then digitally printed on composite polyester fabrics, which are very durable. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The whole collection consist of 6 Looks of both menswear and womenswear. TAGS: pattern, textile, colorful, print, fashion RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After the idea was born, I have started my research based on Surrealism art, Fauvism and the science of Color. Looking at the relevant fabrics available in the market. Tests were done on different textile bases: silk, metallic fabric and polyester. After much pattern experimentation, working in various scales and different color ways, chose the ideal final result. CHALLENGE: My inspiration was from a novel "the unbearable lightness of being", I need to recreate my own story about it, how to inspire people whereby my visual work rather than words to influence their innermost thoughts and feelings is the hard part.
