DESIGN NAME: Clarity
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sitting Bench
INSPIRATION: Clarity was created as an attempt to keep up with the style from the first half of the 20th century, through geometrical game of just few lines. An homage to great pieces of "steel & leather" furniture, from that period of time.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Sitting bench is made for interior spaces. The design is fusion of accentuated contrasts. Rigid form of massive black, light absorbing prism (from soft material), supported by curved, highly reflective leg, made of stainless steel.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Use is determined by it's function (sitting) and it's aesthetics. Bench is rigid, with no moving parts.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project originaly started in 2014 (sketches and 3D modeling), but prototyping concluded in July 2018. in Belgrade, for the purpose of "Design in" catalogue.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Clarity bench base is made of 18 - 20 mm MDF, padded with synthetic wool. Three separate seats consists of MDF frames (to ensure strict line of seats) filled and padded high density foam. Upper edges of seats are done with 2 mm steel rope keder. All upholstered with eco-leather. Supporting leg is made of highly polished stainless steel, curved in a rolling press.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1200 mm x 350 mm x 450 mm
TAGS: bench, cozy, steel, luxury, chrome, minimal, modern, leather
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Already knowing the materials the bench would be made from, determined by the style i was trying to follow, it was much more about dimensions. Big enough to be ergonomically correct and comfortable for sitting, small enough as a detail in interior.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge was to find a satisfactory balance of masses in such a simplified geometry and upholstering technique to accentuate seats edges. Production challenge was to provide press (outside factories) powerful enough to precisely bend 8 mm thick, 100 mm wide stainless steel, around 120 mm roller.
