DESIGN NAME: Green Life
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: In the modern urban jungle of Asia, with the growing and dense urban population, the green resources shared by the urban dwellers more scarce and insufficient. The introduction of the green wall and vertical farm makes enjoying planting and cultivating organic hydroponic vegetables part of daily life to be reproduced in the urban life. We expect to build a healthy life attitude in the residence space and integrate the concept of being organic and non-toxic.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: When the city dwellers come home, they walk into the nature at the same time.
By introducing the green wall and vertical farm to the single-floor residence space, we create different green layers in this apartment. The broadened living room scale is accompanied by the design of glass partition, making the space look like a greenhouse and becomes a beautiful background of the living room. Also, we extend the line of the display bookshelf to the balcony to become the vertical farm.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To completely integrate the green view to life, for the public space, the partition wall is removed and replaced by the design of the glass partition to extend the space view. The large area of the green wall on the background serves as the scenery of the living room and the dining room. To avoid the pest problems, the soil is replaced by the special sponge and the busy dwellers can easily take care of these plants in life. As for the use of water resources, through the accurate counting of the computer system and the control over the irrigation water, the pond under the green wall creates the pleasant natural sound of flowing water.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Even after coming home, people can embrace the vitality of the great nature and at the same time the exquisite and comfortable urban life style and attitude is combined. We hope this place can perfectly support the freshness of the green plants; therefore, we reduce the value and chroma of the overall hue. With the base of the calm earth colors and through the gradation technique of the dark and light layers of handmade paint, the artistic texture of the marble-like natural patterns is presented on the wall. The light design also embellishes the exquisiteness. On the other hand, the display rack is also embedded with the extended design of light strips, making the changes of color layers more abundant and endowing the fashionable and modern life aesthetics.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Like adding a glass greenhouse to the home, the partition wall between the living room and the study room is removed. The design of the glass partition introduces the greenness of the green wall to the green scenery in the living room, dining room, and kitchen. For the planting, the special sponge replaces soil to exterminate pests. The simulation of the spectrum composition of sunlight makes the plants grow successfully even indoors. Through the accurate counting of the computer system and the control over the irrigation water, we recycle and reuse water to reduce the waste of water resources.
CHALLENGE: To guarantee the plants and vegetables to grow healthily indoors without affecting the comfort in the living space, we have to overcome the problems of limited sun exposure, irrigation, and pest prevention. Therefore, how to simulate the outdoor environmental conditions indoors becomes the greatest challenge and lesson this design project encounters.
Through the cooperation with the gardening experts, we combine the expertise of interior design and botany to simulate the sunlight spectrum design indoors and the needed space for the growth of the plants and calculate the water consumption of the plants. By controlling the water consumption for irrigation through technology, we maximize the usage of water resources. All these take the meticulous calculation and thinking process.
