DESIGN NAME: Nomads
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewellery Collection
INSPIRATION: The collection was inspired by historical jewellery of mongol, kazakh, gipsy and other nomadic ethnic groups. The goal was not to reconstruct some exact ancient samples of each nation but rather to investigate and identify common expressive distinctive features.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Nomads" collection refers to archaic jewellery made of bronze and materials unconventional for jewelry art. It also involves such spontaneous findings as buttons into the design because this is how nomads could handcraft their rough jewellery. The collection consist of the wireframe monoearring, the chains and buttons monoearring, the wheel-shaped wireframe earrings, the torus rings and the necklace with recycled fur.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Chains which are used for connecting parts of a jewellery piece allow the whole construction to hang freely.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2017 and finished in June 2018 in Moscow, Russia.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The analytical research was held for both esthetical and functional study of ancient jewellery pieces found in museum collections. Then I used such artistic means as texture and materials to consolidate the collection. In result, a sensoric and philosophical, non-glamorous collection was created.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to cast aside the decorative parts of historical jewellery pieces to make the design look contemporary, laconic but yet bearing the spirit of nomads.
