DESIGN NAME: Civil
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Desktop
INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from the concept of building industrial sheds with exposed copper pipes, hidden by oxidation, that refers to the New York's lofts in the 1950s. The idea is to value the beauty of copper tubing and brass fittings in Furniture.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: From the experience of questioning the inspiration concepts and construction techniques of the existing materials in the civil area, the CIVIL MESA with linear lines and geometric form, imposes a marked presence to the environment by its modern industrial style. After the appropriate treatment is possible to show the beauty of these noble materials; brass, copper and crystal glass, highly reflective materials, in contrast to the matte black lacquer of the drawer, realizing the materials harmonise.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Direct and indirect interaction
The user's first contact with the product is indirect, in the position of observer he visualizes the form, analyzes its materials and construction processes. When in the direct position comes to try it, touching the components and beginning to create tangible feelings of touch and comfort, on the different textures of materials.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was created in November of 2017 in Piracicaba, Brazil. It went through five formal sketches, designed, redesigned, approved and projected in 3D. In April, materials tests began, and construction was executed and finalised at the end of May, being photographed in June 2018 in Piracicaba, Brazil.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In order to strengthen the stability and fixation of the feet and castors, a polypropylene cylinder was inserted internally into the tubes. After gluing the pieces with vegetable resin, the piping takes automotive polishing from the surfaces of the copper pipes to the brass fittings. For the protection of the polished surfaces, automotive varnish was adopted, protecting against handling and weathering resistance. The drawer was produced in MDF with mat lacquer paint. Sliding of the drawers was adopted using the slides with the Sliding Touch system. The drawer is overlaid on the tubular structure, fixed by stainless steel Allen screws. The 12mm glass top with chamfers at the edges is supported by silicone shock absorbers.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The first part of the research was about observations and reflections from the historical concepts of the use of building materials in furniture. Using the internet, collecting information in magazines, catalogs from the civil area, following fairs and design events. Thus identifying trends and production methods.
CHALLENGE: The first challenge was to define the shape of the project, where the linear design had synchronized movement, due to the use of 45 degrees connections, thus forming structural angles, increasing the rigidity of the table, a technique also used in the chair, forming a set. Second challenge was to develop the processes; types of adhesives, component alignment, polishing, painting and varnishing.
