DESIGN NAME: Panos Cafe
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant
INSPIRATION: The project was about a 24 hours exotic restaurant, and it was hoped that customers would have similar perception of the space whether they visit it during the day or at nighttime. The designer took advantage of projection lighting to control the range and illumination of light for the creation of varied ambiances. On top of ceramic printed tiles, pine frames and exotic ornaments, the products the restaurant boasts were included as part of the decoration to serve as the best endorsement and highlight the features of this dining space.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In addition to the special back wall crafted with painted tiles, there is another design highlight on the first floor. As handmade bread in brick oven is one of the restaurants signature, a large bread rack specially made of pine wood is used to display it. This is the longest bread rack in all the branches and a stunning display area is hence created. It allows the customers to see all the bread items at a glance and offers a kind of handmade warmth. The linear-shaped openwork bread rack forms a main visual design with regularity and levels to introduce liveliness to the space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: On the bar counter are placed 16 different types of beer. The beer stand displaying a variety of beer bottles and a wide range of wine labels and the amazing diversity of colors create the best visual effect in a unique way. And designer even made good use of fractional space in the balcony and the preparation area, including the freight elevator on the first floor, to segment a small sofa area and a lounge, which usually may be fully opened or turned into a secret lounge with the help of the sliding doors for different usage.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2017 and finished in August 2017 in Taipei city.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: With abundant lighting and the LOGO background tint of walnut and black colors coupled with bright pine color, the visual level is integrated through simple color shades. The back wall of the bar on the first floor is paved with imported ceramic printed tiles from Turkey, including 24 different patterns. And the train chairs in animal fur texture, together with the hand-made instruments brought back from Africa by the business owner and the wood texture of the tabletop, is in line with the primitive rough industrial style, adding more visual fun.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Modern Trendy VS Industrial Chic is the main concept of this case. Designer took advantage of projection lighting to control the range and illumination of light for the creation of varied ambiances. And the ceiling even was not much embellished, where the rough appearance of the pipeline was deliberately revealed. The linear shaped openwork bread rack also not only enables air and light rays to circulate and travel through but forms a main visual design with regularity and levels to introduce liveliness to the space.
CHALLENGE: Its not easy to design for a branch of restaurant chains as it needs to stick to the brand spirit while creating the characteristics unique to each store. Based on neat, bright modern style, designer shaped the dining space with distinctive features by blending loft style elements. With iron mesh placed on the original structure of the building and painted all black, track lights were installed using the iron mesh. The range and illumination of the light and the ambiance are controlled by projection lamps, and different atmosphere can be rendered through the chandeliers and wall lamps arranged in some areas.
