| DESIGN NAME: Water Wave PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table INSPIRATION: The fundamental inspiration of the tables design is Eastern worldview represented by Yin and Yang circulation. Filling and emptying, flat and bulge coexist. And I chose the water with the motive to imply that thoughts. The shape of water itself is not fixed. Sometimes calm and sometimes wave. I intended to show these circulating characteristics in the form of the table. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The water wave is tea table made of bent steel that can be used in living room or lobby. It has flexible lines and was intended to minimize visual clashes. All the formative elements, including the legs, sinked down smoothly from the flat rectangular deck to express the characteristics of water. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Water wave is low tea table that can be placed and used in the living room or elegant environment. Especially, it is suitable in front of the couch. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2018 in Seoul and finished in june 2018 in Seoul. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Each line is made of steel flat bar and bent by hand. And welded between them. Paint coated with spray gun. Deck is made of tempered glass. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1400 mm x 500 mm x 450 mm TAGS: Table, Water, Flow, Wave, Water wave, Tea table, Coffee table RESEARCH ABSTRACT: First, I studied the Oriental ideological thoughts, circulation of yin and yang, and characteristics of water to design the table. And I researched the usual size of an existing tea table for the convenience of the user. And during production, I studied effective welding skills to avoid flatness defect, and painting skills to express colors effectively. CHALLENGE: It was challenge to bend each unit one by one by hand. If it goes wrong, curves can become unnatural. Before welding each line, it is hard to fit each four legs high correctly. Especially, the leg is asymmetrical, I checked repeatedly that the center of gravity is correct by mock up and simulation. When welding, I paid attention to fix welding parts to avoid wrinkles. Painting was also need caution to evenly spray in every corner.
