INSPIRATION: Have you ever wanted to put a gallery wall in your home but didn't know how it would look? Or wanted to install your own shelves or hang artwork perfectly on your wall. Cubit makes it easy.
The Reason why most DIYers stop doing home improvement projects is because measurements are too complicated and projects rarely look the way they are suppose to. Cubit lets you measure, design, and build your project using one platform without the need to do any complex math making DIY for your home easy.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Cubit is the first tool to bring real world dimensions into the virtual world for design and then bring your designs back to reality accurately. Design with scale & context in our easy to use app then let Cubit act as a gps, giving turn by turn directions to where the change needs to be made. Bringing your design to life in the real world with zero calculations.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Cubit is used with a smartphone to measure, design, and bring projects to life. First use the app and Cubit to photograph and dimension your background to create a design environment. Next use Cubit and the app to import pictures of objects with dimensions so the user can create a design and see exactly how it will look in reality. When done Cubit takes the user to the points in reality with arrows and a bullseye so the user no longer needs to do additional measuring, leveling, or calculations.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Cubit project began in Spring of 2016. also in 2016 we were a finalist for an International Design Excellence Award, won a Red Dot Award for our concept, won a Pro Tool Innovation Award and Popular Science Best of Whats New Award. In 2017 we were able to Win The Best of Innovation for Smart Home at CES, won an Innovation Award at the National Hardware Show, and were a Finalist at Mobile World Congress for connected devices. In 2018 we won 2 awards at CES, and won Best in Smart Home at the Global Innovation Awards and will be launching the fall of 2018.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In designing Cubit we wanted to create a clean, sleek and familiar design to juxtapose the innovativeness of the technology. While the user experience we wanted to model after GPS technology and how it takes the user to a specific point. Using Cubits dual lasers for positioning and a system of arrows and bullseyes we came up with a way for Cubit to take users to specific real world points from a design.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: We created Cubit to solve the most challenging problems anyone building a project faces: inaccuracies in measurement and complex calculations that result in frustration and errors. Cubit eliminates these issues with an easy-to-use accurate measurement system and an app that allows users to design and see a project before building it. Based on users' digital designs, Cubit will then take them to the points in the real world where changes need to be made so they no longer have to do any complex measurements or math. With our platform, users are able to quickly overcome the hurdles that come with planning a project and accurately creating it in reality.
We created Cubit with a sleek white shell and an easy-to-read screen, as well as the familiar form factor of a tape measure, to create a friendly, relatable, and innovative product.
